“The more that you READ, the more things you will KNOW.

The more that you LEARN, the more places you’ll GO.”

-Dr. Seuss

This quote from Dr. Seuss sums up many of the ideals we attempt to promote on our blog. The singsong rhymes penned and illustrated by Dr. Seuss are not only pleasing to children but also have messages adults can understand. I recall being in college and flipping through a copy of Dr. Seuss’ The Butter Battle Book and realizing a few pages in that the book wasn’t at all about how the Yooks and Zooks prefer their bread but it was a very adult statement on tolerance and a well-crafted satire on the nuclear arms race of the 1980s. Even readers who have no memories of the 1980s can take away the message of the danger of not effectively communicating with those whose opinions differ from our own.

Of course, all of Dr. Seuss’ works were not that serious but all encouraged the reader to be imaginative, be true to themselves and have fun while learning. Today we celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday! We’ve compiled some books, games and treats sure to make your celebration complete!

The National Education Association declared Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd as Read Across America Day. With Dr. Seuss’ books available in over 20 languages, its easy to celebrate no matter where in the world you are located. Check out the full collection of his works here.
